Brandy Kayzakian-Rowe - Rebirth: NW Jazz

Photographer Brandy Kayzakian-Rowe has been all over the Portland jazz scene since moving here from Memphis.  Her striking black-and-white photographs capture not only the performances of some of Portland’s best jazz musicians, but also manage give insight into their personalities.

Brandy has been working on a project called “Rebirth” which will soon be turned into a book.  But, before that happens, Portlanders will have the opporunity to see her photos as part of an exhibit at Jimmy Mak’s.  The photos will be hung and ready for their first viewing for the Mel Brown Orchestra’s performance on Tuesday, August 25th.

Thara Memory performs with the Mel Brown Septet - Photo by Brandy Kayzakian-Rowe
Brandy Kayzakian-Rowe is an extremely talented photographer/painter that moved to Portland a couple of years ago.  Before her move, she spent a number of years documenting the Delta Blues scene, which led to her work being featured at the Delta Blues Museum, on album covers, and many other situations.

Now that she’s in Portland, she’s focusing on the jazz scene, photographing musicians in all sorts of settings – performing, teaching, recording, etc.  Recently, she’s been focusing on Thara Memory, photographing the Mel Brown Septet (on the night of Memory’s return), the Superband, and the Pacific Crest jazz ensemble.

Some of her work will soon be featured in the JazzPDX.org gallery page, but for now, you can find her work on her website and her Flickr page.
